I recently attended a 3-day conference in Orlando and decided to take the family along for a fun getaway. The boys’ Disney passes had blackout dates during the time we’d be there, so I was worried there wouldn’t be enough at the hotel to keep all my boys occupied ALL day. “I wish I could live here.” This was my 10-year-old’s statement as we walked through the final exhibit before heading to the buses. Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is already an amazing place, from the gorgeous animals and fun rides to the yummy food and awesome gift shops, but then you add their Dinos Alive exhibit, and you have some VERY happy fifth graders! You know when someone you love is in a sad, heart-wrenching place and you just want to fast forward life to get them to happiness? That’s how I felt about my little sister three years ago. She was going through a divorce and was so upset, and scared, and anxious about so many things. Every time we spoke, her voice was soft and sad, and I knew she was struggling to talk or think about anything else. We prayed and prayed for her to get through that crazy, difficult time and find something to make her smile again…
When you become a parent, you get to enter school field trips in your travel log. They count! Many times, they are destinations you might not plan to visit on your own, and it’s definitely a whole new experience traveling with and caring for several children your child’s age.
